Alongside his arts practice Spencer is passionate about teaching others, passing on his skills and knowledge as well as inspiring creativity in others.
Based around a philosophy of creative play and free expression, Spencer's workshops can be customised to suit all skill levels with past participants ranging in age from 8 to 80 years of age,
Along with practical skills and guidance with the creation of artworks, the workshops can combine an educational aspect, with a brief talk on Spencer's own work, philosophies, inspirations as well as art history to put the workshop in context.
If you are interested in having Spencer along to your school or institution to run a workshop please feel free to email firstname.lastname@example.org
The students responded extremely well to Spencer direction the project & enjoyed being involved in a large scale art project with a working artist.
Kingscote Area School
Past workshops have included:
Digital Pattern Creation
Using a combination of handmade techniques and digital techniques this workshop taught students how to create their own repeat patterns to use on textiles or in their artworks.
Cut patterned paper Collage workshop
Inspired by the cut work of Matisse and Spencer's own work. In this workshop, participants engaged with a creative play process, first experimenting to create colourful patterned paper, which was then cut and pasted to create vibrant collages. Throughout the workshop participants were introduced to the work of other artists that utilise pattern and collage in their work as well as given guidance on colour theory and composition.
Leveraging on his experience , Spencer can work with your school or organisation to facilitate the design and painting of a mural. Working to a brief of your choosing, Spencer involves students or members of your organisation to assist in all parts of the process giving them valuable experience in collaborating and working with a professional artist.
