Some new work underway. Thinking about the lyrical potential of colour. 🌈😌

Something a bit different. I’ve been think a lot about poetry lately and the relationship between poetry and painting. In particular the way both play with language and explore meaning outside of literal representation. Inspired by the Imagist poets of the early 20th century I’ve been experimenting with a form of ‘non-visual painting’, using poetry to create paintings that exist only in the mind. Drawing on Umberto Eco’s concept of the Open Work, these pieces are completed by the viewer, with each seeing a different painting in their minds eye. The poems are laser etched into clear acrylic to give them as minimal visual impact as possible.
